Today I drove across the eastern Free State. Agricultural conditions are not as bad as the western parts of South Africa where there have been minimal plantings due to dryness (see South African maize-belt not in good shape).
Below are a few photos I took in Bethlehem and Reitz (Free State) on 30 December 2018. Anyway, we will have a clearer sense of the potential contribution of this to South Africa’s 2018/19 grains and oilseed harvest when the national Crop Estimate Committee releases its view on the area planted at the end of January 2019
